Aya Suzuki
Percussionist, composer, and performer Aya Suzuki studied in Tokyo under the world-renowned marimba player Keiko Abe. She left her native Japan to study at the Conservatory of Ghent, later moving to Brussels. In her performances, she combines percussion with other instruments, everyday objects, improvisation, and movement. Suzuki performs as a soloist, or with contemporary ensembles such as Ictus and Spectra. In 2024, her debut album Winged Seeds, recorded during a summer residency at STUK Leuven, was released on the KRAAK label. She has also composed music for theatre, including Needcompany’s The Garden of Earthly Disquiet in 2025.
Her serene, minimalist compositions reveal a refined sense of texture and float somewhere between ethereal sound art, contemporary classical and poetic improvisation.
