The Italian harpist Virginia Pestugia and the Mexican flautist Ameyali Aguilar Guerrero crossed paths at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, a special connection emerged from the first moment they played together. They decided to form a duo: Ultramar. The name is derived from the Spanish word meaning ‘that which comes from overseas’, but also from the luminous, electric-blue colour. Both Romantic chamber music, and 20th and 21st-century works feature in their repertoire. Central to this is music with a narrative character, sometimes inspired by nature.
