about
Jazz legend Branford Marsalis is the grand master of the saxophone. He played with Sting and Miles Davis, founded the group Buckshot LeFonque and was band leader in The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In recent years, he began to focus more upon classical music and he now performs regularly with several of the world’s leading orchestras, among them the Bavarian State Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Klarafestival invites Branford Marsalis to Brussels, where he will play three concerts that demonstrate as many faces of his artistry. The concert in collaboration with the Belgian National Orchestra and conducted by Dirk Brossé in Bozar is a tribute to 20th century American symphonic repertoire. Branford Marsalis will also perform the world premiere of Cassandra, a jazz standard by himself reworked for orchestra and saxophone by Vince Mendoza.
note
Festival for Compassion, an initiative of Wonderfeel Festival, commissioned the Ukrainian-Dutch composer Maxim Shalygin to write music that calls for peace. The result is Drop after drop, which will premiere as part of Klarafestival with on 25 March in Bozar, performed by the Belgian National Orchestra conducted by Dirk Brossé. The composition will afterwards be presented at different European festivals. Its trajectory can be followed via www.festivalsforcompassion.com.
