Brooklyn Rider
Upon One Note
Brooklyn Rider is back! According to String Magazine, this New York-based string quartet embodies ‘the future of chamber music.’ Those who attended their unforgettable Klarafestival 2023 concert know this is no exaggeration. This time, the musicians journey through three centuries of repertoire, exploring music that reveals its own rules of play.
Titles like Fantasia Upon One Note (Purcell) and Dissonanzen (Mozart) hint at this theme. Arvo Pärt’s Solfeggio, a poetic miniature based on a single scale, and Betsy Jolas’s third string quartet comprised of nine études, each dedicated to a specific technique, round out the programme. And then there’s Johannes Brahms, who stepped out from Beethoven’s shadow in his forties with a stunning string quartet where form and content achieve perfect balance.
