The Jungle
American trumpet player Wynton Marsalis feels equally at home in jazz and classical music. His diverse and extensive oeuvre proves it. At Bozar, he performs the Belgian premiere of his fourth symphony The Jungle alongside the Belgian National Orchestra and the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra. In this six-movement symphony, Marsalis paints a portrait of New York City's vibrant life: from its glitz & glamour to its aching poverty. But above all, The Jungle is an ode to what brings us together.
That unifying message also resonates in Marsalis' Violin Concerto, written for star violinist Nicola Benedetti. Here, Marsalis bridges her Scottish roots, the classical violin repertoire and his own musical background. The result is a whirlwind journey from New Orleans to the rugged northern highlands.
