On Friday 26 March 1993, more than a thousand curious visitors gathered in the monumental entrance hall of Antwerp Central Station for the world premiere of Luc Brewaeys' Talisker. The architecture and exceptionally long reverberation afforded by this railway cathedral determined the concept and instrumentation of the composition. Ten years after Brewaeys' death, his deeply affecting score can be heard once again. The wind players of I SOLISTI, a battery of percussionists from HIIIT (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag) and a twenty-piece clarinet choir with students from Brussels and Flemish conservatories pay a powerful tribute. There is no better location than the rotunda of the Ravenstein Gallery in Brussels to (re)discover the vibrant dialogue between music and space in all its richness and intensity.

Luc Brewaeys (1959-2015)

Talisker

Above a permanent layer of softly murmuring audiences and passers-by, Talisker unfolds into a true concerto grosso, in which the soloists sometimes play in accompaniment, sometimes enter into dialogue with one another, and at other moments step into the spotlight.
