Coincident Dances
De Amerikaanse componiste Jessie Montgomery koppelt wervelende muziek aan een diep sociaal bewustzijn. Voor festivalartiest Abel Selaocoe schreef ze het celloconcerto These Righteous Paths, waarin ze rouwt om haar overleden moeder. De compositie blikt tegelijkertijd vooruit en achterom: enerzijds naar de voorouderlijke invloed van de Afrikaanse diaspora op de Afro-Amerikaanse wereld; anderzijds naar nieuwe hoop en herinnering. Naast de Belgische première van dit gloednieuwe concerto speelt Brussels Philharmonic ook Montgomery’s bruisende Coincident Dances, en muzikale verhalen van Florence Price en Carlos Simon. De symfonische dansen uit Leonard Bernsteins West Side Story maken deze orkestrale topavond helemaal af.
