Highlights week 2
don't miss out on these concerts
The days are lengthening, spring is in the air. And this we honour with five concerts during the EQUINOX weekend on the 19th and 20th of March. Spring rituals and spiritual music from all over the world take centre stage, with music from Iran, India, Finland, Italy and Corsica.
Peer Gynt: premiere
Grieg was not the only one to compose music for Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. At the turn of the century, Alfred Schnittke provided the work with an eclectic composition. At the heart of this staging is a gigantic video installation set above the orchestra, which vividly portrays the life of Peer Gynt.
Prior to the concert, Klarafestival is screening the free short film Peer Gynt by Michiel Robberecht in Cinematek.
relaxed late-night concert
Enjoy a relaxed late-night concert with the newly formed trio Peltomaa Fraanje Perkola. Singer and harpist Aino Peltomaa, jazz pianist Harmen Fraanje and viola da gamba player Mikko Perkola take you on a musical trip with early music, improvisation and electronics. Settle down in one of the comfy cushions and immerse yourself.
italian Miles Davis
Fans of Paolo Fresu: this is your chance to see the 'Miles Davis of Italy' at work in a special combo. Together with the voices of A Filetta and accordion player Daniele Di Bonaventura, he navigates between Corsican polyphony and improvisation.
Pollini experience
On the 23rd of March, we welcome piano master Maurizio Pollini to Bozar. There, he will celebrate his 80th birthday with music from Schubert and Beethoven's virtuosic, so-called 'unplayable' Hammerklavier.
To complete the experience, watch the free documentary De main de maître about Pollini at Cinematek, or attend the lecture Inside the Hearing Machine about Beethoven's Gehörmaschine at the Klarafestival Lounge.
