new talent

Klarafestival introduces new talent. Two young chamber music ensembles, work by the Spanish-Belgian composer Saskia Venegas Aernouts and a number of Molenbeek artists are waiting to be discovered!

Musikaa

In partnership with BOZAR, Klarafestival is investing in Brussels talent. MUSIKAA is a collaboration with the Municipality of Molenbeek and some of the district’s many cultural organisations. Artists from Molenbeek have developed an artistic programme in a range of locations. Young people from # IMAGINE 1080 (House of Cultures and Social Cohesion) and Molenzine (Citizen Motion, LaVallée) documented the results. Discover their photos and videos from March 21, either online or on a walking route through Molenbeek by scanning QR codes. Including work by Guy Danel, Samir Bendimered, Alex Deforce, Otto Lindholm and many others!

in the eye of the climate storm

Klarafestival 2021 focuses on the relationship between man and his habitat. On March 16, we are hosting a discussion between a climate scientist, a composer and an activist, in partnership with Muntpunt. Can personal engagement make a difference in times of climate crisis? This question is discussed by Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Saskia Venegas Aernouts and Eka van Baaren (Extinction Rebellion). The moderator is Klara presenter Sander De Keere. Prior to the discussion, violist Rhea Vanhellemont (a member of the Desguin Kwartet) plays Saskia Venegas Aernouts’ composition Premonición.

supernova

Last year, just before the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis, Antwerp’s Desguin Kwartet and Trio Aries were selected as the winners of the SUPERNOVA chamber music competition. One year later, on Tuesday March 16, they finally get to perform at their winner’s concert. Desguin Kwartet comprises Wolfram Van Mechelen (violin), Ludovic Bataillie (violin), Rhea Vanhellemont (viola) and Pieter-Jan De Smet (cello). They will perform Peter Benoit’s string quartet. Trio Aries, with Alice Van Leuven on violin, cellist Paul Heyman and Wouter Valvekens on the piano, play an arrangement of what is possibly Schönberg’s best-known composition: Verklärte Nacht.
