Imaginary Mirror Koen Plaetinck

interview with koen plaetinck

it's easier to understand baguettes flying through the window than the horrors of war Making music without compromise. The amalgamation of authenticity and innovation. Beauty and creativity as the sole objective. Musical polymaths Wim Van Hasselt and Koen Plaetinck – the former trained as a trumpet player, the latter as percussionist – present with their brand-new duo ART’uur a counterbalance to the fast-moving, sometimes superficial daily tasks that typify the day-to-day life of the professional musician. They go passionately in search of depth and, in doing so, attempt to bring together all forms of art. Their first project, Imaginary Mirror, would have premiered at Klarafestival 2020. A conversation with Koen Plaetinck.

sieben todsünden

With regret, but aware of the necessity regarding public health, we made the decision to cancel Klarafestival 2020. However, the opening concert Sieben Todsünden with Brussels Philharmonic and Vlaams Radiokoor conducted by the Austrian composer-conductor HK Gruber, took place in an empty hall.

‘Glitter & Doom’ met in the world-weary voice of the legendary German musical star Ute Lemper. Her interpretation of Anna in Die sieben Todsünden, a satirical ‘ballet chanté’ by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, consisted of a raspy warning and a melancholic, broken recalling. After the final notes, the atmosphere among the musicians got emotionally charged. How long until music will be played again in the concert halls of Brussels, Belgium, Europe?
