Why it makes sense to perform Shostakovich’s Seventh Symphony today

Read the article written by musicology professor Pieter Bergé

In the context of the current crisis, Klarafestival decided to perform emotionally charged work in its entirety. From the conviction that this is exactly what is needed. So tonight, Dmitri Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony will sound in a full Studio 4 in Flagey, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Yoel Levi. It will be preceded by Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!, a new orchestral work by Piet Swerts.

At the request of the festival, Pieter Bergé, professor of musicology at the KU Leuven, aptly described this necessity. You can read it here.
