Ten years after the death of Luc Brewaeys (1959-2015) organisers, orchestras, ensembles and other partners are joining forces to present a rich cross-section of the music of one of Flanders' most remarkable composers. More than a complete overview, this ‘spread-out’ season aims to focus on the unique position occupied by Luc Brewaeys and to pass on his legacy to future generations, by combining his music with repertoire by his sources of inspiration and his contemporaries,
symphonic musician
During Klarafestival 2026, Brewaeys’ symphonic work will play a central role. Together with the Belgian National Orchestra, we offer a fresh perspective on his unfinished Symphony No. 8. Annelies Van Parys pieced together a new finale, bar by bar, entirely in the style of Brewaeys. Youth Orchestra Flanders goes back to the very beginning with his first symphony.
The mini-exhibition Musical Thoughts of Luc Brewaeys can be visited free of charge during the concerts on March 27 and 29 at Bozar and Flagey. Dive into the fascinating scores and colourful musical language of Luc Brewaeys.
Talisker
The highlight of this tribute will undoubtedly be the performance of Talisker during Muziekberg on March 21. The wind players of I SOLISTI, a formidable group of percussionists from HIIIT (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag), and a twenty-strong clarinet choir made up of students from Brussels and Flemish conservatories will deliver a powerful homage. There is no better setting than the rotunda of the Ravenstein Gallery in Brussels to (re)discover, in all its richness and intensity, the vibrant dialogue between music and space.
